United Way of Nevada County administers the Emergency Fund, which provides one-time financial assistance to Nevada and Sierra County residents experiencing a temporary and verifiable emergency that threatens their housing, health, or safety.

The fund is designed as a last resort to address unexpected crises where no other resources are available. It is not intended for ongoing needs or chronic financial hardship.

Services include:

  • One-time financial support for emergency needs affecting housing, health, or safety
  • Assistance with costs such as rental deposits, urgent vehicle repairs, or appliance replacement
  • Payment support for unusually high utility bills

Additional notes:

Applications are submitted online.

Rental assistance is for security deposit assistance only; this program does not provide rent payment assistance for people already living in their rental.

Tahoe-area short-term rental nuisance complaints above 5,000 feet elevation are handled through the Host Compliance Hotline or online portal.

The San Juan Ridge PARTNERS Family Resource Center (FRC) provides families in the San Juan Ridge area with information and referrals to local resources, services, and facilities on a drop-in basis for visitors of all ages.

It also assists families with child development, parenting support, counseling, education, and employment tools. It also offers playgroups for families with children ages 0-5, and weekly activities for older children.

  • The FRC does not have any housing resources and does NOT have any gift cards, gas cards, etc.

Youth are eligible for ILP services from age 14 to the day before their 21st birthday, provided one of the following criteria is met:

  • Youth was/is in foster care at least one day after their 16th birthday
  • Youth is a former dependent who entered into a kinship guardianship at any age and is receiving/received Kinship Guardianship Assistance Payments (KinGAP) between ages 16-18
  • Youth is a former dependent who entered into a Non-Related Legal Guardianship (NRLG) after attaining age 8 and is receiving/received permanent placement services
